This is the first Saturday in a while that I’ve awakened in my home to simply do NOTHING but relax, and it feels amazing!
Even in the summer when school in not in session it seems that there’s a list of things to get done each day. I’m not sure why that is. It just seems as if “progress” is supposed to be made on weekdays…so I find some progress to make – like there would be any shortage of things to do in a family as large as mine? But on Saturday, the dynamic is totally different.
I woke up to “no agenda” with a side of bagel with cream cheese, a serving of OJ, and a generous helping of The Food Network – with a good cup of coffee to wash it all down. Ah…pure bliss!
If you know me at all, you know I love the Ree Drummond, aka Pioneer Woman, who now has her own show on The Food Network. This morning was all about her favorites…and my favorite part of her show was seeing her favorite “views” of the ranch she lives on in Oklahoma. They were spectacular! Big, bright, and multicolored skies with rainbows and all. Nothing to be seen at all for miles but grass and trees under God’s big blue sky.
But the highlight of The Food Network’s Saturday morning line up was watching Melissa Gilbert make a guest star appearance on The Kitchen. You know…the Melissa Gilbert who played Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Little House! I grew up watching the series and didn’t know just how much it had impacted my life until I became an adult.
I almost named this website Little House on the Freeway, but I didn’t because I wanted the website to be about something greater than myself, so I chose Welcome Home instead. (I added on the word “ministry” because the domain name Welcome Home was already taken.) But you can see that the blog section of this website is called My Little House in honor of the show.
Here’s my family’s Little House inspired portrait…
Any way, you won’t believe that Melissa Gilbert now has her own cook book titled My Prairie Cookbook: Memories and Frontier Food from My Little House to Yours. I’ve got to be sure to buy that!
If you’d like to know why I affectionately refer to my home as my Little House on the Freeway, or if you’d like to read two Little House on the Prairie inspired posts that I wrote about appreciation and contentment, then click here.
Happy Saturday, everyone!
May you be gifted with a tranquil and peaceful day.
