Hey There, Happy Friday!
I haven’t posted anything in over a week. I’ve been enjoying some R & R and catching up on some reading (around the internet!). In that time I’ve come across some awesome articles and websites that are worth mentioning, most of which I’ve shared on Welcome Home Ministry’s Facebook page, but if you haven’t seen them yet, check them out here just in time for the weekend! Here are my top movie picks for mom and the family and a stellar salvation testimony (but aren’t they all?), and so much more! So, if you’re looking for something to fun to do, read or watch this weekend, then check this out!
first up . . .
What to Rent: Just for Mom
It’s Friday, and in my home that means it’s time to let our hair down and breathe a collective sigh of relief. ***Ahhhhhhh!*** Did you hear that? A movie or two is certainly on my radar for tonight. If you’re looking for a something to watch then curl up with your blanket and popcorn and check out these picks from Lisa over at Syncopatedmama.blogspot.com. Her “Five After Five” list highlights five movies by her favorite director, who just happens to be . . .well, jump over and check it out!
At the Movies
God’s Not Dead 2
God’s Not Dead 2 (PG) releases today! Here’s a brief synopsis: After answering a student’s (Hayley Orrantia) question about Jesus, a junior high-school teacher (Melissa Joan Hart) faces an epic court case that could end her career. This movie is the sequel to God’s Not Dead 1 which my whole family loved and saw on a lovely Sunday afternoon. I found # 1 to be a great faith based film, especially in this day and time when the rights of Christians are being stripped away. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the sequel as a family, too.

Miracles from Heaven
Miracles from Heaven (G) was released on March 16th. It is based on the memoir of the same name by Christy Beam, which recounts the story of her young daughter who had a near-death experience and was later cured from an incurable disease. Best DVD for the Family – Raising Izzie
I’m always on the lookout for a good wholesome family film. I’ve made a decision that any family show we watch on Sundays will be faith-based. I like to keep our thoughts focused on God and if we can do that while watching a movie, then that’s a win-win!
Last week, we watched Raising Izzie (NR), a touching story of two orphaned sisters and the caring teacher who changes their lives forever. My family REALLY enjoyed this film. This is not your garden variety faith based film: the wife is a hottie who wears mini skirts (though it’s business attire); the husband and wife are in love and are hot for each other (what a testimony!). The couple dines out at a Jazz club and in another scene they have a glass of wine. But none of this detracts from it’s “family” message. In fact, I found that it served as a spring-board for an excellent teaching opportunity on more than one topic.
This film can be intense and doesn’t bother to sugar coat the hard realities of life but meets it head on with faith in Jesus Christ. It deals with orphaned kids and is heavy on grief at times; but the light shines at the end, my friend! And even though I didn’t shed a tear, my husband cried! (No, that’s not an April Fool’s joke.) Common Sense Media.com suggested it be viewed by ages 12 and older, but my soon to be 9 year old watched it with (almost) no problem. CLICK HERE for trailer.
Best Blog Post For Moms
If you’re needing some affirmation as a Mom, hop over to EveryMom.com to read 25 Things Good Moms Do (Without Even Realizing It). It’s written by Elizabeth Spencer who blogs at Guilty Chocoholic Mama – which is now officially on record for being one of my new favorite blogs! Elizabeth is funny and engaging and you will just love her writing. Trust me, you want to read this . . . it’s “mom-tastic!”
Featured Salvation Testimony . . .
I have no idea how I found Mo Isom’s blog – but I’m so glad I did! I surfed around her site and stumbled upon this video which shares how she came to faith in Christ. If you’re a talk show fan, you may recognize Mo from her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show because of how she famously scored a 90-yard goal when she was an All-American goalkeeper for the LSU Women’s Soccer team. Watch it now. Watch it as a family after church on Sunday. But what ever you do, please just watch it! It doesn’t disappoint – and neither does our great and mighty God!

Be sure to check back in on Monday. I’m working on a blog post titled: The Bible vs. the Bottle: Help for the house wife who’s looking to win the world for Christ!

I’m SO glad I’m not the only one sharing the LUVS commercial. Hilarious! I’ve watched it at least three times. On purpose. I’m about to check out the Raising Izzie trailer now as transracial adoption is part or our story. Thanks for the recommendations.
Hey Nicole! The LUVS commercial is too funny! Humor that mimics reality is always the best. I hope you like Raising Izzie. Stop back by and let me know what you think. Even if you have a different, that’s what makes the conversation so interesting!
Happy Watching!
